  • Setting time: 20-30 minutes
  • Yields: 4-6 small tubs

Description

There’s something so satisfying about making your own skincare… Especially when it’s this easy.
It’s made with simple, natural and organic ingredients I trust on my skin, it smells amazing, and it costs next to nothing.
This recipe makes around 4–6 small tins, lasts through two seasons, and makes the sweetest little gift.
Easily customisable, and can always be scaled down in quantity!

Ingredients

  • 1.5 tbsp natural beeswax pellets
  • 3 tbsp organic coconut oil
  • 1.5 tbsp organic unrefined shea butter (adds creaminess)
  • 10–15 drops essential oil (e.g. peppermint, lavender, or sweet orange) – optional
  • 1 tsp Manuka honey (food-grade, for hydration and healing) – optional
  • 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil (for a softer texture) – optional

Equipment

  • Double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water)
  • Stirring utensil (spoon or wooden stick)
  • Small containers or lip balm tubes (clean and dry)

Method

  1. In a double boiler, combine beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter, manuka honey (if using) and olive oil (if using). Gently heat over low-medium heat, stirring occasionally until completely melted (about 5–10 minutes).
  2. Remove from heat and stir in essential oils (if using) until fully blended.
  3. Carefully pour the liquid mixture into your tins or tubes. It starts to set quickly, so work fast.
  4. Let the containers sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes (or pop them in the fridge for a quicker set).
  5. Once fully set, seal with lids and store in a cool, dry place. Use as needed for soft, hydrated lips.

Shelf Life: About 6 months stored in a cool, dry place

Notes & Tips

Texture Fixes: Too firm? Remelt and add ½ tsp more coconut or olive oil. Too soft? Remelt and add ¼ tsp more beeswax
Manuka Honey: Stir in well, it may leave a subtle scent. This can be substituted for pure honey.
